VAZHI TIRUNAMAM

VAzhi tirunAmam is a poem usually sung in praise of perumAL, tAyAr,  AzhvArs  and AchAryas. It has a brief account of the native details and the glories of the Lord or Guru in context. Just as taniyans are recited at the beginning of the prabandhams, vAzhi tirunAmams are recited at the end of AzhvAr pAsurams as a mark of obeisance and gratitude.

நல்ல திருப்பல்லாண்டு நான்மூன்றோன் வாழியே
நானூற்று அறுபத்து ஒன்றும் நமக்கு உரைத்தான் வாழியே
சொல்லரிய வானிதனில் சோதி வந்தான் வாழியே
தொடை சூடிக் கொடுத்தவள் தன் தொழுந்தமப்பன் வாழியே
செல்வநம்பி தன்னைப்போல் சிறப்புற்றான் வாழியே
சென்று கிழி அறுத்து மால் தெய்வம் என்றான் வாழியே
வில்லிபுத்தூர் நகரத்தை விளக்கினான் வாழியே
வேதியர் கோன் பட்டர்பிரான் மேதினியில் வாழியே

SELVA NAMBI VAZHI TIRUNAMAM

Selvanambi was the family priest and administrator of TirukOShTiyoor temple. He counselled king SrimArn Srivallabhan (VallabhadEvan) to arrange a debate at TirukooDal Nagar, Madurai to know the supreme truth. He has been hailed by PeriyAzhvAr in his PALLANDU as 'alvazhakku onRumillA aNikOTTiyar kOn abihmAnatungan" meaning the blemishfree true vaishNava of tirukOTTiyoor.

தென்னவனுக்காரியனாய்த் தேர்ந்துரைப்போன் வாழியே  
செல்வ நம்பி திருவடிகள் சகதலத்தில் வாழியே.
