KRISHNA BRINGS PARIJATA FOR SATYABHAMA

NarakAsura had created havoc in heaven and earth. All suffered under his tyranny. He had also snatched away the earrings of aditi devi (dEvEndra’s mother). DEvEndran requested Lord Krishna to protect them from this asura. KrishNa along with his consort satyabhAma went to Pragyotishpura (Assam region) ruled by narakAsura. In the terrible battle that was waged, narakAsura was killed by satyabhAma.

KrishNa and satyabhAma reached indralOka to return the earrings to aditi dEvi. They were welcomed with respect by Indra and his wife IndrANi (also called Shachee).

IndrANi had adorned her braids with the fragrant pArijAta flowers (now called red coral jasmine or pavazhamalli). SatyabhAmA expressed her desire for the flowers. Instead, IndrAni arrogantly retorted that these flowers were worthy only for women of the swargalOka and not for mere humans like her.

Hurt by these words, SatyabhAmA felt sad and denied. She also proclaimed that the pArijAta tree was one of the gifts obtained during Samudra Manthanam and hence belonged to everyone, not just SatyabhAmA.  Unable to bear the insult inflicted on His dear wife, KrishNa mounted on His vehicle GaruDa and landed in IndriyAni's garden. He uprooted the pArijAta tree, carried it on GaruDa and was ready to leave. Raged Indra rushed with his army and attacked Hari. When Indra sent his vajrAyudha, KrishNa caught it. Indra and Sachee surrendered to KrishNa and allowed SatyabhAma to take the pArijAta tree.

KrishNa and SatyabhAmA then returned to dwArakA on GaruDa. KrishNa then planted the tree in SatyabhAmA's garden.
