PREFACE

श्री:

Shree Gurubhyo Namah!

We, the team members of 'Devamrutam', offer our humble salutations to our beloved and precious Guru Smt. Seetha Saranathan, under whose proficient and compassionate tutelage, we have been able to learn Azhvar’s Divya Prabandhams in their original form and content.

We are extremely thankful and blessed to have her daughter, Smt. Prabha Senesh on board, to express our spiritual journey in her benign words.

“Knowledge is power. The knowledge that empowers us with devotion is to be treasured. The 4000 devotional verses known as Nalayira Divya Prabandham sung by the twelve Azhvars are invaluable knowledge-giving treasures."

"Tradition has it that the Divya Prabandhams have to be learnt in a particular format called ‘Santai’ in which the Guru says a part of the verse and the disciples repeat after her.  E- learning being the need of the hour, Smt. Malathi Balaji and her team came up with the idea of having ‘e-santai’ to learn Divya Prabandhams and sought Devanarvilagam Smt. Seetha Saranathan as Guru for the same. They formed a whats app group called ‘DIVYA PRABANDHAM WORKSHOP (08.02.2020)’ and their journey to enjoy Azhvars’ Arul Amudam began under the guidance of their Guru."

"Smt. Seetha Saranathan is the daughter of Navalpaakkam Shri R. Kuppuswamy Iyengar and Smt. Padma (daughter of Devanarvilagam Uppili Swami). Nurtured with detailed study of Divya Prabandhams and Desika Stotrams, Smt. Seetha Saranathan also excelled in Sanskrit, in her oriental school. She was married to her maternal uncle, Sri. U. Ve. Devanarvilgam Saranathan Swami. Under the institution of a strict, orthodox and spiritual family, Smt. Seetha Saranathan learnt all procedures ordained by scriptures and follows them religiously even today.  She has raised her children with spiritual interest and can be called ‘an exemplary mother’."

"Along with her disciplined religious routine, Smt. Seetha Saranathan has been teaching Prabandhams and Stotrams for children and elders for the past 15 years. She is a very passionate and a patient teacher."

"This blog has the link to the You Tube videos of ‘Santai of the Nalayira Divya Prabandham’ rendered by Smt. Seetha Saranathan. These videos are easy to follow and would be an extremely useful tool for learning for the upcoming generations. To support the verses with knowledge, the team members have explained the meaning of the verses so beautifully in this blog. This is a complete package to nurture spiritual interest!!"

Adiyen,

Smt. Prabha Senesh
